What the directory does

The directory introduces couples to independent witnesses. It is free for couples to use and free for witnesses to join; we do not charge booking fees or take commission. Sending a request is not a confirmed booking. A witness can accept or decline, and you arrange the time, place, travel, fee and payment directly with them. We are not a party to that arrangement.

For couples

Please provide accurate ceremony details and confirm arrangements directly with your chosen witnesses. You are responsible for checking with your registrar or celebrant what your ceremony requires, including the number of witnesses and their eligibility. Availability, prices and travel shown on listings are guidance supplied by witnesses, not a guarantee. Have a backup plan if someone becomes unavailable.

For witnesses

Only sign up with your own accurate details and a photo you have permission to use. You are responsible for your availability, fee, travel, communications, and meeting any applicable legal requirements to act as a witness. We review listings before they appear and may pause or remove a listing if details are misleading, inappropriate, out of date, or the directory is being misused. Approval is not a background check or a promise of work.

Your contact details stay off your public card. We may forward enquiries to you so that you can reply to the couple. Please use those details only to respond to that enquiry and do not share them or send unrelated marketing.

Referrals and the headshot thank-you

Witnesses can share their personal invite link. Five new witness sign-ups linked to that link unlock a request for a free half-hour headshot session with Lee. Names typed in by hand do not count as linked sign-ups. The session is arranged with Lee subject to availability; travel and any extras should be agreed separately. The reward has no cash alternative.

Using the site fairly

Do not submit false or unlawful material, impersonate someone else, scrape listings, spam members, or use the directory to contact people for unrelated purposes. If you upload a photo or text, you give us permission to display it as part of your directory listing while it is active. You keep ownership of your content.

If something goes wrong

We try to keep listings accurate and the site available, but cannot guarantee a match, a witness's availability or conduct, or uninterrupted access. Please raise concerns with us at howdee@elopementwitnesses.co.uk. These terms do not exclude any rights you have under law. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
